GTT – a worldwide leader in emergency vehicle preemption (EVP) and transit signal priority (TSP) systems – today announced the appointment of Jim Oberstar, as Senior Strategic Advisor.
During his 36-year tenure serving Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives, Jim championed a wide range of initiatives to improve transportation safety. His efforts culminated in his appointment as Chairman for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in 2007, a role in which he oversaw all modes of transportation including aviation, maritime, and surface transportation.
“We are honored to have Jim on our team as we strive to create a safer, more reliable traffic management infrastructure,” saidDoug Roberts, CEO of GTT. “Throughout his career, Jim has been a passionate advocate for the restoration and advancement of our nation’s transportation infrastructure – a focus that aligns perfectly with GTT’s mission.”
“I look forward to continuing my safety and transit advocacy in a new venue with Global Traffic Technologies,” said Jim Oberstar. “I have observed GTT’s Opticom™ traffic signal priority control system evolve into a sophisticated, real-time traffic control solution, adaptable to the requirements of emergency and transit services. In my judgment, it is proven, sound fiscal policy to equip emergency responders and transit systems with Opticom™ technology. I am eager to work with local governments and GTT to facilitate public-private partnerships that allow communities – despite the current challenging economic times – to benefit from the use of this critical technology.”
